Old-Fashioned Date Drop Cookies

1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
1 cup butter or margarine softened
1 tablespoon grated orange peel
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 eggs
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup quick-cooking or old-fashioned oats
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 (8 ounce) package chopped dates
1/2 cup chopped pecans
Heat oven to 350. Grease cookie sheet. Beat brown sugar, butter, orange peel, vanilla and eggs in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed, or mix with spoon.
Stir in flour, oats, baking soda and salt.
Stir in dates and pecans.
Drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls about 2 inches apart onto cookie sheet. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until light brown. Remove from cookie sheet to wire rack.
