Magnum Force

1973

Harry Callahan: A man's got to know his limitations.

Prostitute: Too bad you're not on welfare, I'd give you a freebie.

Harry Callahan: You know those guys? Early Smith: They came through the Academy after me. They stick together like flypaper, you know? Everybody thought they were queer for each other. Harry Callahan: Tell you something. If the rest of you could shoot like them, I wouldn't care if the whole damn department was queer.

Harry Callahan: Couldn't of happened to a nicer bunch of guys.

(Harry is confronted by three of the vigilante cops) Harry Callahan: You heroes killed a dozen people this week. What are you going to do next week? Officer Davis: Kill a dozen more.

Lieutenant Briggs: Suppose they panic and start shooting? Harry Callahan: Nothing wrong with shooting as long as the right people get shot!

Lieutenant Briggs: You're on loan to Stakeout, Callahan. Harry Callahan: That's right, Lieutenant! You saw to that.

Harry Callahan: Well, I just work for the city, Briggs! Lieutenant Briggs: So do I, longer than you, and I never had to take my gun out of its holster once. I'm proud of that.

Lieutenant Briggs: I've worked for the city longer than you have, and I never had to take my gun out of its holster once. I'm proud of that.

Pilot: Excuse me, Captain... Can I ask you a silly question? Harry Callahan: Go ahead. Pilot: Are you sure you know how to fly a plane? Harry Callahan: Nope... .never had a lesson.

Harry Callahan: (tailing a suspect's car) Driver Suspect: (realizes this, so he turns around and goes the opposite way) Harry Callahan: (prepares to do the same) Early Smith: Maybe we should stop. They don't were police officers. Harry Callahan: (turning around) Why? Early Smith: They might panic. Harry Callahan: Good. Then I can get him for the other 27 murders he committed. So let him panic. (soon catches up with the car and tells partner) Roll down your window. Early Smith: Why? Harry Callahan: Because I want to talk to him. Early Smith: (rolls window down but cowers low in seat) Driver Suspect: What do you want? Harry Callahan: My friend and I are lost. We're trying to get to San Anquatio Park. Driver Suspect: It's back there. Didn't you see the sign? Harry Callahan: Yes. I see fine. I just wanted to know if you knew that, asshole! (speeds off)

Harry Callahan: (shows boss suspect's bullet) Lieutenant Briggs: (seeing it through microscope) Close, but no match. It has much more lines than the other. Where'd get it from, by the way? Harry Callahan: Oh, just some hunch. Lieutenant Briggs: Tell me where. Harry Callahan: Look, it doesn't matter because it doesn't match up, so there is no reason for me to tell you. Lieutenant Briggs: Don't play any crap games with me.

Infirmary Doctor: You sure you don't want a local? Harry Callahan: Yes. Infirmary Doctor: Ok, but you better let me finish up here, otherwise your brain's going to be dripping out onto your shoe. Lieutenant Briggs: (enters) How is he? Infirmary Doctor: Well, he got seven stitches but he'll be fine. Lieutenant Briggs: (now yelling at Harry) Blast it, Harry what happened out there? I told you not to use Sweet, and what happens, two minutes out there and he is shot dead. Harry Callahan: I didn't know he was going to be positioned at such a risky spot. Lieutenant Briggs: Well you are in real trouble. I also want to see that bullet of yours, now! Harry Callahan: (takes it out and throws it on the floor) Eat it! Lieutenant Briggs: (bends down to get it and then slowly gets back up glaring at Harry)

Neighbor: (seeing Harry take apart a mailbox) What's going on? What are you doing? Harry Callahan: Taking apart this mailbox. Neighbor: That's my mailbox too. (after a moment) I'm calling the police. (heads upstairs to do so) Harry Callahan: I am a police officer. Neighbor: (comes back down) Oh. You're the police officer who lives upstairs. Harry Callahan: (has the mailbox open now and finds a miniature bomb inside, with a red light lit up on it. He takes it out and clicks a button causing the red light to go out) Neighbor: What's that? Harry Callahan: A bomb. Here, you want to hold it? Neighbor: (panicking) Oh no, no, no. Harry Callahan: Yeah, you see that. If you had held me up any more, we would all be stuck to the ceiling by now.

Lieutenant Briggs: (knocks on Harry's door) Harry Callahan: Who is it? Lieutenant Briggs: (doesn't answer and knocks again) Harry Callahan: (takes gun out and aims it at door) Come in. Lieutenant Briggs: (enters) I told you before, that I don't like looking at the barrel of that gun. Harry Callahan: Well, why didn't you answer me when I asked, "Who is it?"

Lieutenant Briggs: Make a right here and get on the freeway. Harry Callahan: Why? You know a faster route to the station that way. Lieutenant Briggs: (puts his glasses away and takes his gun out and points it at Callahan) Harry Callahan: (seeing this) Your gun is out of your holster. Lieutenant Briggs: We're not going back to the station. I hope you know that.

Lieutenant Briggs: You killed three cops, Harry. And the only reason why I'm not going to kill you now is because I'm going to prosecute you against your own system. (gets in car and starts it up) It'll be my word against yours!

Lieutenant Briggs: People are guilty until proven... I mean... God damn it, you know what I mean!

Harry Callahan: Briggs, I hate the damn system, but until someone comes along with changes that make sense, I'll stick with it.

(Harry and Walter are examining the car of the pimp shot to death) Walter, Crime Scene Investigator: Now, he'd have to be standing right here, this close. Point-blank range. Harry Callahan: The driver's license and a hundred dollar bill were out, almost like he was showing it to a traffic cop. Walter, Crime Scene Investigator: Yeah. And from what we have it figures to be someone impersonating a police officer. On the cars at least, it's been done before. This close it would have to be someone he would never recognize. Harry Callahan: Or never suspect.

Harry Callahan: Where'd you learn to shoot like that? Certainly not around here. Officer Phil Sweet: No, sir. Airborne Rangers... Special Forces. Harry Callahan: And how about the rest of these guys? Are they as good as you? Officer Phil Sweet: Well, Grimes here... I'd say he's about even with me... Astrachan's a little better on a good day Officer Red Astrachan: (snickers) A little better? Officer Phil Sweet: And Davis there... he's just dog crazy. He's a lot better. Harry Callahan: A lot better? You sure show a sense of style... Sweet is it? Well, when I get back on homocide I hope you boys will come see me.

Harry Callahan: (at end of main titles) This is a 44. Magnum, the most powerfull handgun in the world. It can take your head clean off. You've got to ask yourself one question, Do I feel luky? (fires at the audience)
