Batman Begins

2005

(from teaser) Bruce Wayne: They told me there was nothing out there, nothing to fear. But the night my parents were murdered I caught a glimpse of something. I've looked for it ever since. I went around the world, searched in all the shadows. And there is something out there in the darkness, something terrifying, something that will not stop until it gets revenge... Me.

(from trailer) Henri Ducard: You traveled the world... Now you must journey inwards... to what you really fear... it's inside you... there is no turning back. Your parents' death was not your fault. Your training is nothing. The will is everything. If you make yourself more than just a man, if you devote yourself to an ideal, you become something else entirely. Are you ready to begin?

Henri Ducard: You have to become more than a man to the mind of your opponent.

Enormous Prisoner: You are in hell! (punches Bruce Wayne) Enormous Prisoner: And I am the devil! (punches him again) Bruce Wayne: You're not the devil. You're practice.

Bruce Wayne: My anger outweighs my guilt.

Alfred Pennyworth: Why bats, sir? Bruce Wayne: Bats frighten me. It's time my enemies share my dread.

Carmine Falcone: (frantically loading his shotgun) What the hell are you? (Batman breaks open the limo's sunroof and pulls Falcone out) Bruce Wayne: I'm Batman! (Batman knocks Falcone out with a headbutt, then notices a bum watching him. The bum is wearing the coat Bruce gave him years ago) Bruce Wayne: Nice coat. (Batman flies off with Falcone) Homeless Man: Thanks.

Alfred Pennyworth: Are you coming back to Gotham for long, sir? Bruce Wayne: As long as it takes. I'm gonna show the people of Gotham that their city doesn't belong to the criminals and the corrupt. Alfred Pennyworth: In the depression, your father nearly bankrupted Wayne Enterprises combating poverty. He believed his example could inspire the wealthy of Gotham to save their city. Bruce Wayne: Did it? Alfred Pennyworth: In a way. Their murders shocked the wealthy and the powerful into action. Bruce Wayne: People need dramatic examples to shake them out of apathy and I can't do that as Bruce Wayne, as a man I'm flesh and blood I can be ignored I can be destroyed but as a symbol, as a symbol I can be incorruptible, I can be everlasting. Alfred Pennyworth: What symbol? Bruce Wayne: Something elemental, something terrifying. Alfred Pennyworth: I assume that as you're taking on the underworld, this symbol is a persona to protect those you care about from reprisals. Bruce Wayne: You thinking about Rachel? Alfred Pennyworth: Actually, sir, I was thinking about myself.

Rachel Dawes: I guess there is no way I can convince you not to come. Bruce Wayne: Someone in this proceeding should stand for my parents. Rachel Dawes: We all loved your parents, Bruce. What Chill did is unforgivable. Bruce Wayne: Then why is your boss letting him go? Rachel Dawes: In prison, he shared a cell with Carmine Falcone, he learned things and will testify in exchange for early parole. Bruce Wayne: Rachel, this man killed my parents. I cannot let that pass. And I need you to understand that, please.

Alfred Pennyworth: (after Alfred knocks out a League of Shadows henchman while the mansion is burning) I hope you weren't from the fire brigade.

Henri Ducard: Justice is balance. You burned down my house and left me for dead. Consider us even.

Blonde Female Reporter: Joe! Hey, Joe Chill! Falcone says hi. (shoots witness Joe Chill)

Henri Ducard: If someone stands in the way of true justice, you simply walk up behind them and stab them in the heart.

Batman: It ends here. Henri Ducard: (standing alongside two members of The League of Shadows) For you and the police, maybe. My fate however lies with the rest of Gotham. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a city to destroy. Batman: I can beat two of your pawns. Henri Ducard: As you wish. (two more members of the League of Shadows drop down from above)

Arkham Thug #1: (Batman makes his presence known) What do we do? Dr Jonathan Crane: What anyone does when a prowler comes around... call the police.

Bruce Wayne: I'm not a criminal. Chinese Police Officer: Tell that to the guy who owned these. (showing Bruce Wayne a box with "Wayne Enterprises" stamped on it)

Thomas Wayne: Bats again? (Bruce nods yes) You know why they attacked you, don't you? They were afraid of you. Bruce Wayne - age 8: Afraid of me? Thomas Wayne: Yeah, all creatures feel fear. Bruce Wayne - age 8: Even the scary ones? Thomas Wayne: Especially the scary ones.

Jim Gordon: (hearing bat sounds) What's that? Bruce Wayne: Back-up.

Rachel Dawes - age 8: Finders keepers and *I* found it. Bruce Wayne - age 8: In *my* garden.

Rachel Dawes: The night Chill died, I said terrible things. Bruce Wayne: But true things. I *was* a coward with a gun. Justice is about more than revenge, so... thank you.

Earle: Didn't you get the memo?

Bruce Wayne: (answers car phone) Bruce Wayne. Earle: What makes you think you can decide who's running Wayne Enterprises? Bruce Wayne: Well, the fact that I'm the owner. Earle: What are you talking about? The company went public a week ago. Bruce Wayne: And, I bought most of the shares. Through various charitable organizations, and trusts, and so forth. Look, it's all a bit technical, but the important thing is that *my* company's future is secure. (slightly louder into the speaker phone) Right, Mister Fox? Lucius Fox: Right you are, Mister Wayne. (sarcastically to Earle) Didn't you get the memo?

Batman: Storm's coming. Jim Gordon: Storm's getting choppy because you stood up to Falcone. Batman: It's a start. You're partner was at the docks with Falcone. Jim Gordon: He moonlights as a low-level enforcer. Batman: They we're splitting the shipment in two. Only half went to the dealers. Jim Gordon: Why, what about the other half? Batman: Flass knows. Jim Gordon: He won't talk. Batman: He'll talk to me. Jim Gordon: Commissioner Loeb's set up a massive task force to catch you. He thinks you're dangerous. Batman: What do you think? Jim Gordon: I think you're trying to help. (Batman disappears) Jim Gordon: But I've been wrong before...

(concerning the memory cloth) Bruce Wayne: Too expensive for the Army? Lucius Fox: I don't think they tried to market it to the billionaire, spelunking, BASE-jumped crowd. Bruce Wayne: Look, Mr Fox. Lucius Fox: Yes, sir? Bruce Wayne: If you're uncomfortable... Lucius Fox: Mister Wayne, if I don't know what you are doing, I won't have to lie. But don't take me for a fool. Bruce Wayne: Fair enough.

Bruce Wayne: I will go back to Gotham and fight men like this, but I will not become an executioner. Henri Ducard: Bruce, please! For your own sake. There is no turning back.

Batman: It's not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me.

Alfred Pennyworth: Took quite a fall, didn't we, Master Bruce? Thomas Wayne: And why do we fall? So we can learn to pick ourselves up.

Bruce Wayne: Good morning, I'm here to see Mr Earle, please. Jessica: (without looking at Bruce) Name? Bruce Wayne: Uh... Bruce Wayne.

Maitre D: Sir, the pool is for decoration, and your friends do not have swimming suits. Bruce Wayne: They're European. Maitre D: I'm going to have to ask you to leave. (Bruce starts to write a check) It is not a question of money. Bruce Wayne: (gives him the check) You see, I'm buying this hotel, and uh, setting new rules about the pool area.

Bruce Wayne: Give it a try! Alfred Pennyworth: (Alfred turns on the lights of the cave) Charming. (looks up and sees thousands of bats) At least you'll have company.

Bruce Wayne: Do you have any light-weight fabrics? Lucius Fox: You know... I got just the thing.

Bruce Wayne: (about the prototype Bat suit) Tear resistant? Lucius Fox: This thing could stop a knife. Bruce Wayne: Bulletproof? Lucius Fox: Anything but straight shots. So what's your interest in it, Mr Wayne? Bruce Wayne: I wanna borrow it for... spelunking. Lucius Fox: Spelunking? Bruce Wayne: Yeah, you know, cave diving. Lucius Fox: Expecting to run much gunfire in these caves? Bruce Wayne: Look, I'm rather Mr Earle didn't know about me borrowing it. Lucius Fox: Mr Wayne, the way I see it, all this stuff is yours any way.

Bruce Wayne: (as Alfred opens the curtains) Bats are nocturnal. Alfred Pennyworth: Bats might be, but even for billionaire playboys, three o'clock is pushing it. The price of leading a double life, I think. Look at who's made an impression. (shows the newspaper to Bruce) Bruce Wayne: Theatricality and deception are powerful weapons, Alfred. It's a good start. Alfred Pennyworth: If those are to be the first of many other injuries to come, it will be wise to find a suitable excuse. Polo, for instance. Bruce Wayne: I'm not learning polo, Alfred. Alfred Pennyworth: Strange injuries and non-existent social life, these things beg the question as to what exactly does Bruce Wayne do with his time and his money. Bruce Wayne: And what does that make me do? Alfred Pennyworth: Drive sports cars, date movie stars, buy things that are not for sale... who knows, Master Wayne? You start pretending to have fun, you might even have a little by accident.

Henri Ducard: Are you so desperate to fight criminals that you lock yourself in to take one of them at a time? Bruce Wayne: Actually, uh, there were seven of them. Henri Ducard: I counted six, Mr Wayne. Bruce Wayne: How do you know my name? Henri Ducard: The world is too small for someone like Bruce Wayne to disappear.

Henri Ducard: To manipulate fears of others, you must first master your own. Are you ready to begin? Bruce Wayne: I can barely stand... Henri Ducard: (kicks him) Death does not wait for you to get ready!

Alfred Pennyworth: I prepared the master bedroom. Bruce Wayne: No, my room will be fine. Alfred Pennyworth: With all due respect sir, Wayne Manor is your house. Bruce Wayne: It's not my house Alfred, it's my father's house. Alfred Pennyworth: Your father is dead. Bruce Wayne: This place is a mausoleum. If I had my will, I would tear it down brick by brick. Alfred Pennyworth: This house, Master Wayne, was shelter to six generations of your family. Bruce Wayne: Why do you give a damn, Alfred? It's not your family. Alfred Pennyworth: I give a damn because a good man once made me responsible for what was most precious to him in the whole world.

Bruce Wayne: Have you told anyone I'm coming back? Alfred Pennyworth: I just couldn't figure legal ramifications of bringing you back from the dead. Bruce Wayne: Dead? Alfred Pennyworth: You've been gone seven years. Bruce Wayne: You have me declared dead? Alfred Pennyworth: Actually it was Mr Earl, he's taking the company public. He wanted to liquidate your majority sharehold. Those shares are worth quite a bit of money. Bruce Wayne: It's a good thing I left everything to you then. Alfred Pennyworth: Quite so, sir. And you can borrow the Rolls if you like. Just bring it back with a full tank.

Uniformed Policeman #1: (describing the Batmobile on radio) It's a black... tank!

Earle: Jessica, why isn't anyone answering the phone? (sees Bruce from behind, teaching Jessica to play golf) Bruce Wayne: (turning around) It's Wayne Enterprises, Mr Earle, I'm sure they'll call back. Earle: Bruce? I thought you were dead. Bruce Wayne: Sorry to disappoint.

Henri Ducard: Your parents' death was not your fault. (Bruce attacks Ducard with his sword) It was your father's. (Bruce furiously attacks Ducard, but is easily defeated) Anger does not change the fact that your father failed to act. Bruce Wayne: That man had a gun! Henri Ducard: Would that have stopped you? Bruce Wayne: I've had training! Henri Ducard: The training is nothing! The will is everything! (Ducard bests Bruce once again) The will to act.

(concerning the Nomex Advance Infrantry Survival suit) Bruce Wayne: Why didn't they put it into production? Lucius Fox: Bean counters didn't think a soldier's life was worth 300 grand.

Uniformed Policeman #1: (talking about the Batmobile, trying to find it) Well, can you at least tell me what it looks like? (the Batmobile whizzes past) Uniformed Policeman #1: Never mind.

Crane Thug #1: Where are you? Batman: (appears upside-down behind him, whispering) Here.

Dr Jonathan Crane: I am, more then aware that you are not intimidated by me, Mr Falcone. But you know who I'm working for, and when he gets here... Carmine Falcone: He's coming to Gotham? Dr Jonathan Crane: Yes he is. And when he gets here, he's not gonna wanna here that you have endangered our operation just to get your thugs out of a little jail time.

Henri Ducard: Only a cynical man would call what these people have "lives," Wayne. Crime. Despair. This is not how man was supposed to live. The League of Shadows has been a check against human corruption for thousands of years... We sacked Rome. Loaded trade ships with plague rats. Burned London to the ground. Every time a civilization reaches the pinnacle of its decadence... We Return to restore the balance.

Batman: (to Ra Al Ghul) You never learned to mind your surrounding!

Henri Ducard: Death does not wait for you to get ready! Death is neither considerate, nor fair! And make no mistake, Mr Wayne. Here, you face death.

Henri Ducard: If you devote yourself to an ideal and they cannot stop you... you become something else entirely. Bruce Wayne: Which is? Henri Ducard: Legend, Mr Wayne.

Dr Jonathan Crane: (to Rachel Dawes) This is where we make the medicine. Perhaps you should have some. Clear your head.

Dr Jonathan Crane: (after inhaling his fear toxin and being threatened by Batman) Dr Crane isn't here at the moment, but if you would like to make an appointment...

Rachel Dawes: I never stopped thinking about you... about us... when I heard you were back, I started to hope... (Rachel kisses Bruce) That was before I found out about the mask. Bruce Wayne: Batman's just a symbol, Rachel. Rachel Dawes: (Rachel touches Bruce's face) *This* is your mask. Your real face is the one that criminals now fear. The man I loved - the man who vanished - he never came back at all. But maybe he's still out there, somewhere. Maybe one day, when Gotham no longer needs Batman, I'll see him again.

Homeless Man: (watches as Bruce Wayne is thrown out of Falcone's establishment) Should've tipped better!

(last lines) Jim Gordon: And what about escalation? Bruce Wayne: Escalation? Jim Gordon: We get semi-automatics weapons, they get automatics. We get kevlar body armor, they get armor-piercing bullets. And you're wearing a mask. Take this guy... armed robbery, double homicide... has a taste for theatrics, like you... he leaves a calling card. (Gordon hands Batman a clear plastic evidence bag with a playing card inside it) Bruce Wayne: (Batman turns the card over to reveal that it's a Joker card) I'll look into it. Jim Gordon: (Batman turns to leave) I never got to say thank you. Bruce Wayne: And you'll never have to

The Scarecrow: (riding through a riot on a hooded horse) We have nothing to fear but fear itself!

Flass: (to interrogate Flass, Batman lays a snare-trap which yanks Flass by his leg 70 feet into the air) I never knew! I swear to God! Batman: Swear to *me*!

Lt James Gordon: (trying to escape slums) I'll get my car. Batman: I brought mine. Lt James Gordon: (Batmobile blasts out of a garbage heap and races by) I have got to get one of those.

Henri Ducard: (while fighting on the monorail) Familiar, have you learned nothing new? (swings sword at Batman, who blocks it with his wrist guards) Bruce Wayne: How about *this*? (snaps wrists and shatters the sword)

Rachel Dawes: You could die. At least tell me your name. Bruce Wayne: It's not who I am underneath, but what I *do* that defines me.

(repeated line) Henri Ducard: Always mind your surroundings.

Henri Ducard: You are just an ordinary man in a cape! That's why you couldn't fight injustice and that's why you can't stop this train! Batman: Who said anything about stopping it? (Ra's al Ghul looks up and sees that Batman's jammed the brakes - Batman reverses Ra's al Ghul and pins him to the floor) Batman: You never learned to mind your surroundings!

(greets Bruce after Bruce's ninja training in the mountains for seven years) Alfred Pennyworth: You look quite fashionable. Apart from the mud.

Alfred Pennyworth: (referring to ordering the separate cowl pieces from Asia) Of course, we'll have to order a large number to prevent suspicion. Bruce Wayne: How much? Alfred Pennyworth: 10,000. Bruce Wayne: Well, at least we'll have spares...

(after smashing a prototype cowl and updating Bruce on new shipments) Alfred Pennyworth: In the meantime, may I recommend not landing on your head...

Henri Ducard: (to Bruce) Criminals thrive on the indulgence of society's understanding.

Carmine Falcone: (to Flass) Sometimes things just go bad.

Batman: Falcone sent them to kill you. Rachel Dawes: Why? Batman: You rattled his cage. (throws photos) Rachel Dawes: What's this? Batman: Leverage. To keep things moving. Rachel Dawes: Who are you? Batman: Someone like you. Someone who rattled the cages.

Alfred Pennyworth: When you told me your grand plan for saving Gotham, the only thing that stopped me from calling the men in white coats was when you said that it wasn't about thrill-seeking. Bruce Wayne: It's not. Alfred Pennyworth: What would you call *that*? (points to a TV news report showing a helicopter shot of the Batmobile being chased down the freeway by police cars) Bruce Wayne: (as he fixes his tie) Damn good television.

Earle: Mr Fox... I seem to remember firing you. Lucius Fox: You did. I got a new job. Yours. Earle: By whose authority... ?

Bruce Wayne: (phone rings) Bruce Wayne. Earle: What makes you think you can decide who's running Wayne Enterprises? Bruce Wayne: Well, the fact that I own it... Earle: What are you talking about? The company went public a week ago? Bruce Wayne: And I bought most of the shares, through various charitable organizations and trusts. Look, it's all a bit technical but the important thing is that the future of *my* company is secure. Right, Mr Fox? Lucius Fox: Right you are, Mr Wayne! (to Earle) Didn't you get the memo?

Henri Ducard: Your compassion is a weakness your enemies will not share. Bruce Wayne: That's why it's so important. It separates us from them.

Bruce Wayne: Mr Fox, if you're uncomfortable... Lucius Fox: Mr Wayne, if you don't want to tell me what you're doing, then if anyone asks, I don't have to lie. But don't think of me as an idiot.

Batman: I can't stop them from loading the train. But we can stop the train itself from reaching Wayne Tower. Lt James Gordon: What do I do? Batman: (hands the Batmobile's remote to the Gordon) Can you drive stick?

Flass: (taking a bribe) Don't suppose you want a taste... But I figure, we keep offering, sooner or later, you get wise. Y'know... Makes some of the enforcers a little nervous - you not cutting in on this... Lt James Gordon: I'm no rat! Besides, in a town this dirty, who's there left to rat to...

Rachel Dawes: Deep down you may still be that same great kid you used to be. But it's not who you are underneath, it's what you do that defines you.

Bruce Wayne: A guy dresses up like a bat clearly has issues.

(Bruce Wayne begins to burn down Ra's Al Ghul's temple) Henri Ducard: What are you doing? Bruce Wayne: What is necessary, my friend.

Lt James Gordon: You're just one man. Bruce Wayne: Now we're two. Lt James Gordon: We?

Flass: (referring to the Narrows) The cops only go there if they have back-up! Batman: (shouts) Do I look like a cop?

Bruce Wayne: You haven't given up on me yet? Alfred Pennyworth: Never.

Rachel Dawes: (attempting to comfort a child in a riot) It's okay. They won't hurt you. The Scarecrow: (off screen) Of course they will!

(after taking a ride in The Tumbler) Lucius Fox: So, what do you think? Bruce Wayne: (smiling) Does it come in black?

(Rachel finds out that Bruce had planned to shoot Joe Chill and slaps him twice) Rachel Dawes: Your father would be ashamed of you.

Alfred Pennyworth: But Master Wayne, guests will be arriving! Bruce Wayne: Keep them happy until I arrive. Tell them that joke you know.

(repeated line) Carmine Falcone: Scarecrow. Scarecrow. Scarecrow.

Female Restaurant Guest: I think the Batman deserves a medal. Earle: And a straight-jacket to pin it on.

(the Scarecrow arrives on horseback) Rachel Dawes: Crane? The Scarecrow: No. Scarecrow.

The Scarecrow: (Batman gets a dose of the Scarecrow's nerve gas) Having trouble? (Batman falls onto a chair) Take a seat. (splashes Batman with alcohol) Have a drink. (nightmarish images of the Scarecrow, bats, and the shooting play in his mind) You look like a man who takes himself too seriously. (lights a lighter) You want my opinion? You need to lighten up. (Scarecrow sets Batman on fire)

(meeting someone introduced as Ra's al Ghul) Bruce Wayne: You're not Ra's al Ghul. I watched him die. Henri Ducard: (from behind Bruce Wayne) But is Ra's al Ghul immortal? (Bruce turns around to face Ducard) Henri Ducard: Are his methods supernatural? Bruce Wayne: Or cheap parlor tricks to hide your true identity, Ra's?

Henri Ducard: Theatricality and deception are powerful agents.

(Batman flies up to find Ra's al Ghul and his warriors) Henri Ducard: Well, well? You took my advice about theatricality a bit... literally.

Batman: Taste of your own medicine, Doctor?

(watching Bruce defeat Ducard) Ra's Al Ghul: Impressive.

Carmine Falcone: Doctor Crane, it's all too much, the walls are closing in, blah, blah, blah. Couple more days of this food, it'll be true.

Lucius Fox: (Bruce Wayne is recovering after being poisoned by Scarecrow) I analysed your blood and isolated its receptor compounds and it's catalyst based. Bruce Wayne: Now you know I don't understand any of that. Lucius Fox: I know, I just wanted you to know how hard it was. Bottomline I synthesised an antidote. Bruce Wayne: Could you make more? Lucius Fox: Why? Planning on gassing yourself again, Mr Wayne? Bruce Wayne: Well, you know how it is, Mr Fox. You're out at night, looking for kicks and someone's passing around the weaponised Hallucinogens. Lucius Fox: I'll bring what I have. The antidote should inoculate you for now.

Alfred Pennyworth: (to Bruce) Batman made first page, Master Bruce. But, unfortunately, you were pushed back to page 8. Bruce Wayne: (looks at the title on page 8) Drunken Billionaire Burns Down Mansion.

Bruce Wayne: (being pulled away from a prison rumble by the guards) What are you taking me away for? Bhutanese Prison Guard #1: For protection. Bruce Wayne: I don't need protection! Bhutanese Prison Guard #1: Protection for them. (shows the groaning prisoners Bruce has beaten up)

Henri Ducard: Gentlemen, time to spread the word. And the word is... panic.

Lt James Gordon: (sideswipes several cars) (grimaces) Sorry!

Carmine Falcone: Ignorance is bliss, my friend. Don't burden yourself with the secrets of scary people.

Bruce Wayne: Gotham isn't beyond saving.

Dr Jonathan Crane: Would you like to see my mask? I use it in my experiments. Probably not very frightening to a guy like you... but those crazies... they can't stand it. Carmine Falcone: So when did the nut take over the nuthouse? (Crane sprays Carmine Falcone with hallucinogenic gas, Falcone screams in terror from the sight of Scarecrow) Dr Jonathan Crane: They scream and they cry... much as you're doing now.

The Scarecrow: They scream and they cry. Much as you're doing now.

Rachel Dawes: (looking at the ruins of the burned down Wayne Manor) What will you do? Bruce Wayne: Rebuild it. Just the way it was, brick for brick. Alfred Pennyworth: *Just* the way it was, sir? Bruce Wayne: Yeah. Why? Alfred Pennyworth: I thought this might be a good opportunity for improving the foundations. Bruce Wayne: To the south-east corner? Alfred Pennyworth: Precisely, sir.

Henri Ducard: Have you finally learned to do what is necessary? Bruce Wayne: I won't kill you, but I don't have to save you.

(first lines) Bruce Wayne - age 8: Rachel, let me see! Can I see?

(last lines) Lt James Gordon: I never said thank you. Batman: And you'll never have to.

Crane Thug #2: The things they say about him. Can he really fly? Crane Thug #1: I heard he can disappear. Dr Jonathan Crane: Well, we'll find out. Won't we?

(as Wayne Manor is burning down) Bruce Wayne: What have I done, Alfred? Everything my family... everything my father and his father built... Alfred Pennyworth: The Wayne legacy is more than bricks and mortar, sir.

Flass: What're you waiting for? Uniformed Policeman #1: Back-up. Flass: Back-up? (Flass gestures at the dozen police cars outside the building) Uniformed Policeman #1: The Batman's in there. SWAT's on the way, but if you want to go now... (smiles) Uniformed Policeman #1: I'm right behind you, sir. (Flass turns to Gordon. Shrugs) Flass: SWAT's on the way.

(from trailer) Alfred Pennyworth: Master Wayne, it's been a long time.

(from trailer) Ra's Al Ghul: Gotham must be destroyed.

(from trailer) Rachel Dawes: I spent a lot of time being scared for you. And I heard you were back. But the man I loved, the man who vanished never came back.

Bruce Wayne: What's that? Lucius Fox: The Tumbler? Oh, you wouldn't be interested in that.

Dr Jonathan Crane: He's here. Arkham Thug #1: Who? Dr Jonathan Crane: The Batman.

Alfred Pennyworth: Why do we fall, sir? So that we might better learn to pick ourselves up.

Bruce Wayne: (on police rooftop inspecting the Bat Signal; taps bat logo) Nice. Lt James Gordon: Couldn't find any mob bosses.

Carmine Falcone: You're taller than you look in the tabloids, Mr Wayne. (after a guard has frisked him) No gun? I'm insulted! You could have just sent a thank-you note. Bruce Wayne: I didn't come here to thank you. I came here to show you that not everyone in Gotham is afraid of you. Carmine Falcone: Only those who know me, kid. Look around you. You'll see two councilmen, a union official, a couple of off-duty cops, and a judge. Now you think, just because your mommy and your daddy got shot, you know about the ugly side of life, but you don't. You've never tasted desperate. You're Bruce Wayne, the Prince of Gotham, you'd have to go a thousand miles to meet someone who didn't know your name, so don't come down here with your anger, trying to prove something to yourself. This is a world you'll never understand. And you always fear what you don't understand.

(trying to lug a burning roof beam off of a helpless Bruce) Alfred Pennyworth: What was the point of all those push-ups if you can't even lift a bloody log?

Carmine Falcone: Yeah you got spirit kid, I'll give you that. More than your old man anyway. In the joint Chill told me about the night he killed your parents. He said your father begged for mercy. Begged. Like a dog.

Henri Ducard: But I know the rage that drives you. That impossible anger strangling the grief, until the memory of your loved one is just... poison in your veins. And one day, you catch yourself wishing the person you loved had never existed so you'd be spared your pain.

The Scarecrow: But The Bat-Man has a habit for disruption.

Dr Jonathan Crane: Mr Finch, I'd check with Miss Dawes what implications your office has allowed her to make. If any.
